Varvara Gracheva, a Russian-born tennis player who recently became a French citizen, has secured her first victory representing her new country. The 22-year-old triumphed in her opening match at the Luxembourg Open, defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova in straight sets.
Gracheva, who was born in Joukovski Oblast, Moscow, has been through a three-year process to gain French citizenship. She expressed her pride and emotion after singing La Marseillaise, the French national anthem, for the first time.
