Air Force Service Member Dies After Setting Himself on Fire Outside Israeli Embassy
Man Identified as Aaron Bushnell, 25
Military.com reports that Aaron Bushnell, a 25-year-old active-duty member of the US Air Force, died on February 25, 2024, after setting himself on fire outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington, DC.
Bushnell, an airman from Texas, reportedly set himself alight in protest of the civilian deaths in Gaza. He was taken to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
In a social media post before his death, Bushnell wrote, "I cannot stand idly by while innocent people are being murdered." He also expressed his support for the Palestinian people and condemned the Israeli government's actions.
The Israeli Embassy in Washington, DC, issued a statement expressing regret over Bushnell's death and condemning the violence. The embassy also said it was working with US authorities to investigate the incident.
